Step Parent

A person, usually a step parent, who acts in place of a parent towards a child of the other spouse. The Latin term "in loco parentis" is sometimes used. A step parent may be required to pay less than the guideline amount of support if the child has a parent who is required to pay support. If you are doing your own divorce and you or your spouse are a step parent, you should seek legal advice.
