The Federal Child Support Guidelines are regulations under the Divorce Act
that apply when setting child support amounts for children of the marriage. The guidelines consist of a set of rules and tables and are the law in Canada. Under the Federal Child Support Guidelines the basic amount of child support is determined by considering:
- the number of children;
- the province or territory where the paying parent lives; and
- the paying parent's gross annual income.
