What are the basic steps in filing for divorce?

Filing for divorce in British Columbia is generally a three stage process:
  1. In the first stage you file the divorce action. The court fee for this stage is $218.00.
  2. In the second stage you file the application for a divorce order. The court fee for this stage is $62.00.
  3. In the third stage, which is optional, you file the request for a Certificate of Divorce. The court fee for this stage is $31.00 per Certificate.

Each stage requires a trip to the court, unless you are using our optional British Columbia Divorce Filing Service.
